Letterbox

Illustration of a Christmas town scene. Note the compulsory red letterbox to make it English.

Winter scenes

Two recent commissions for this year's Christmas range. Tried to link them with the use of a punchy red element. It can be tricky to make potentially very cold images warm and inviting enough to make them suitable for the greetings card market.

Formula 1

First in a range of sports themed designs. I actually started the background traditionally with ink wash before painting into it digitally. Drawing vehicles is a great way to improve perspective knowledge.

Robin watching Santa

Santa claus design. Originally had two children watching through the window but was advised to change this to a robin to make it more 'believable'. ;)

Christmas in the city

Couple of oil pastel style Christmas card commissions I did a few months back. For the same customer I think.

Nativity paintings

Some recent Christmas card designs I painted. Ive been trying to work on a more interesting use of lighting and atmosphere in some of these.

Christmas Shopping in Oxford Street

Christmas shopping design - tried to make the reds as punchy as possibly

More fishy fishy

Another fishing design to be sold in garden centre shops.

Lady golf

I always prefer to aim towards the original idea I had in my head when I paint up an illustration. So when a design undergoes countless revisions its always a challenge to stop the image getting away from me. This golf design started off in a completely different setting but ended up like this.

The wedding march

Got my wife to put her wedding dress back on to model for this painting. I could have ran some dappled light over the train of the dress but felt it worked better to leave it as a simple white shape.

Watering the garden

Getting the figure right makes or breaks these kind of illustration. The dungarees being baggy made it quite tricky. Hopefully I got it.

Madonna in the Garden of Gethsemane

I've changed it up a bit with the lighting in this one. As always the face was the trickiest bit.

Snowball fight

I wanted to something a bit more dynamic and so came up with this snowball fight scene.

Silent Night, Holy Night

These two Christmas card designs were commissioned from other designs I have previously done. Its always a challenge to do something that looks similar but is actually quite different.

Squirrel character design

Something a bit different - some character design work for a squirrel with serious financial sense.
